BENJAMIN, Utah – A Utah County family is experiencing an unimaginable loss. Their young mother passed away over the weekend, just nine days after giving birth to twins. On Monday, KSL TV spoke with the family who said it’s completely devastating.
The family is dealing with the death of 23-year-old Morgan Hughes of Benjamin, Utah. She and her husband Sam Hughes just had the twins, a boy and a girl, back on Dec. 19 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.
However, the babies came six weeks early, and Morgan Hughes developed a rare heart complication after the delivery called postpartum cardiomyopathy. She was rushed back to the hospital just days later and died in the hospital on Saturday. Sam Hughes’ father said Morgan Hughes’ death is something they can’t even process and they miss her dearly.
“She was just the best, just as good as you can imagine, everything you hope one of your children will find in a spouse,” Brian Hughes, Morgan Hughes’ father-in-law, said.
Their family wanted to make sure people know they believe one day they’ll see Morgan Hughes again. Brian Hughes said their faith in Christ is helping them get through this.
Right now, the twins are still in the NICU, unable to come home. The families are planning for Morgan Hughes’ funeral, and Sam Hughes is trying to figure out how to raise the babies on his own.
There are a few GoFundMe pages to help Sam raise the kids. They’re almost at their goal, but you can imagine Sam Hughes is going to need all the help he can get. If you’d like to help too, you can click on this link to one of the *GoFundMe pages.
