LEHI — In Lehi, dozens of kids were shooting hoops Thursday in a free youth basketball event, bringing Utah Foster Care and Raise the Future together.
Liv Harness, a teen basketball standout, is traveling the country putting on youth basketball camps, called “Liv Your Legend.”
For some kids in the camp, this could be the start of their own legend.
Refined skills do not happen overnight.
“Basketball is for everyone,” said Harness.
Harness, 14 years old, has grown up around basketball.
Between a natural talent and commitment, she has made a name for herself on social media and inspired thousands of others with her passion and ball handling.
On Thursday, she took what she knew on the court to 100 kids in Utah foster care.
“Giving them something to learn, but they’re gonna have a lot of fun,” said Harness.
Lindsay Kaeding with Raise the Future, said the camp goes beyond the court.
“A lot of kids in foster care don’t always have the same opportunities as other kids and don’t always have the opportunity to play organized sports and go to clinics such as this,” said Kaeding.
Once the buzzer sounds, Kaeding hopes each kid leaves with a smile.
“I hope they leave tired. I hope they leave and they just had the best experience and just really feel that their community is behind them,” said Kaeding.
Maybe, they will even take home a trick or two.
“They might be. They could be,” said Harness.
Thursday is the only day where this specific camp is happening here. But, Harness hopes to continue in these camps and inspire youth across the country.
