SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s unemployment rate held steady in November and remained below the national average.
The unemployment rate stayed at 3.5%, according to monthly data from the Utah Department of Workforce Services. Unemployment in the state has remained at 3.5% for the past three months following a period of increases over the summer.
The national unemployment rate in November was 4.2%.
Data for the month of November also showed that Utah had 30,900 more jobs this year than it did last year.
Most industries saw an increase in jobs. However, the retail, transportation and utilities and leisure and hospitality industries all saw a decrease.
“Despite some pockets of weakness, notably in retail trade and leisure and hospitality, the state’s labor market is exhibiting continued resilience and stability as the year draws to an end,” said Ben Crabb, chief economist with the Utah Department of Workforce Services, in a news release.
