SALT LAKE CITY — Be advised travelers, things could get tricky for the holiday along Utah’s Wasatch Front.

With many Utahns heading to and fro for Thanksgiving, staying safe while traveling could get complicated by a storm moving in.

KSL TV’s Chief Meteorologist Kevin Eubank said with deteriorating air quality Wednesday, a storm will move in late Thursday (Thanksgiving) that will produce valley rain and mountain snow, changing to just snow and lasting through the first half of Friday.

Most locations can expect a trace to an inch but southern Utah Valley, south to Fillmore, including the Sanpete Valley could see several inches more than that.

In the mountains, expect 5 to 10 inches of snow and the Cottonwoods could see more — good news for winter sports enthusiasts.

High temperatures in Utah will drop significantly, staying in the 30s after the storm slides into the Wasatch Front. Low temperatures will drop into the 20s. The weekend looks to be even colder.

KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson warned Wednesday that travel on Interstate 15 in the Fillmore area, could be dangerous on Thursday. He also warned of strong wind gusts possible from Bountiful to Logan.

“This wind event will be heavily dependent on the track of the low that models are still trying to get a handle on,” Johnson said.
