Semitruck hauling wheat catches fire, closes portion of Interstate 80

SALT LAKE CITY – A semitruck caught fire on Interstate 80 Monday, closing portions of the highway.
A semitruck hauling wheat was traveling westbound on I-80 near 5600 West in Salt Lake City when the trailer caught fire, according to Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol.
Roden said the semitruck’s trailer was successfully separated from the cab. Nobody was injured during the fire, Roden reported.
Westbound lanes of I-80 were closed due to the fire, according to a post on X from the Utah Department of Transportation.
🚨Closure – WB I-80 is at MP 113 (5600 W in Salt Lake City) due to a commercial vehicle fire. Avoid the area and use an alternate route.

UDOT did not provide an estimated time for westbound lanes to reopen.
