Thunderstorm warnings issued Sunday evening as ‘big changes’ coming to Utah

UPDATE: 6:05 p.m. — On Sunday evening, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of Salt Lake and Davis Counties.

Salt Lake City, West Valley City and West Jordan were all in a warning that expired at 5:45 p.m. Portions of Davis County, including Bountiful and Layton, were under a warning until 6:15 p.m.

With this storm, wind gusts of 60 mph and pea-sized hail were possible.

KSL TV’s Kristen Van Dyke says Monday is the last day of above-average temperatures at least for a week.

“Big changes are moving into Utah this week. Expect showers and storms to develop Monday,” she said.

SALT LAKE CITY — Sunday morning is pulling a cold front that brings a series of scattered storms to southwest Utah on Monday morning.

The National Weather Services of Salt Lake City said the storms that develop will be capable of producing strong, gusty winds, along with a drop in temperatures for the work week.

KSL Weather’s Kristen Van Dyke says Sunday will bring an increase in smoke levels, as the temperature will be in the upper 80s. “Monday bring showers and storms with highs in the low 80s and then highs only in the 60s by Tuesday!”

A few storms have already developed over southwest Utah this morning and we’ll see scattered showers and storms this afternoon.
