On April 2, 2024, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department responded to a man who was allegedly threatening a gas station employee with a knife.
When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Cameron Ammon Cloward in the parking lot with a knife. SLCPD officers gave several commands to Cloward to get on the ground, but Cloward appeared not to listen to their commands. Cloward continued to walk towards the officers, resulting in them shooting him at least 20 times.
Cloward was declared dead shortly after the shooting.
