On July 23, 2020, police with the South Jordan Police Department served a search warrant on the home of then-42-year-old Ryan McManigal after he allegedly threatened a local business, shot out a street light, and violated a protective order.
After his arrest, police found about 20 pounds of explosive materials in his home. In June 2021, city officials were forced to demolish the house, calling the home a “literal minefield” since the explosives could not be safely removed.
McManigal was sentenced to at least 11 years and up to life in prison after being found guilty of six counts of possession or use of a weapon of mass destruction, a first-degree felony, and two counts of assault on a peace officer, a second-degree felony, on Sept. 20, 2023.
This is the encounter between McManigal and police outside of his South Jordan, Utah home.
This video was edited to show the timeline of events with police and McManigal. Some parts of the provided body camera footage were edited by police and KSL TV.
