Video: Morning weather forecast for Jan. 3, 2025

As a storm moves into the West Coast today we’ll see flow out of the south. Southerly flow will push temperatures into record territory along the Wasatch Front with highs topping out in the mid-50s when we should be in the mid-30s this time of year! A cold front Saturday morning will then drop the bottom out with rain quickly switching to snow. Accumulating valley snow does look likely and could end up being Salt Lake City’s first 1″ snow storm of the year. Northern and central valleys could see 1-2″, benches and the Wasatch Back 2″-4″, northern mountains 5-10″ with 6-12″ + in the Cottonwoods, and 4-8″ for the central mountains! Rainfall for the valleys could be between .25″-.50″, higher end only if the transition to snow happens later and doesn’t last as long. – Matt Johnson, KSL Weather 1.3.25
