On Sept. 8, 2004, the space probe containing solar wind samples from the Genesis spacecraft unexpectedly crashed into Dugway Proving Ground in Tooele County, Utah.
While it was planned to land at Dugway, the main parachute did not deploy, causing the probe to crash in the desert. The crash severely damaged and contaminated the samples, but scientists were able to recover most of the samples.
