SALT LAKE CITY — Officials with the Unified Police Department are looking for two men who they believe shot and killed two cats in Midvale.
Sgt. Aymee Race says a witness called to report that cats were shot around five o’clock on Wednesday morning. The witness told police he was taking his wife to work when he saw two men shoot a cat on the sidewalk outside of an apartment complex near 7400 South State Street.
Sgt. Jose Martinez with Salt Lake County Animal Services says the suspects also shot a second cat. Officials say one cat had an owner while the other was a community cat.
“This area is known to have about 20 community cats that the residents know about … and love to have around,” Martinez said. “The community cat that was shot was the friendliest one that residents did care for and love. They’re pretty upset.”
Both cats died from their gunshot wounds. Officials are still trying to figure out why the men shot the cats.
Unified officials are asking anyone in the area that has cameras or saw the shooting to please call the police.
