Westbound lanes were closed but are now open.
Lt. Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said the semi was carrying beer westbound on I-80 and was almost at the 215 tun off when they lost control of their brakes.
The semi ended up down the embankment as it came back left and clipped a heavy duty truck with a utility trailer.
The driver was transported to the hospital and no injuries were reported by anyone in the other vehicle.
“It did compmromise the load of beer he was hauling. They initially were blocking all lanes but have everything open now. This crashed happened at about 4:45 p.m.,” said Lt. Roden.
UDOT Traffic said in a post to X that intermittent closures are possible. It said drivers should plan for delays traveling between Park City and Salt Lake City.
“This sounds like it’s going to be a huge mess for the evening commute. We have reports of debris scattered all across the road,” John Gleason with the Utah Department of Transportation said in an interview with KSL NewsRadio.
He advised people to take an alternate route if possible.
“You have beer scattered all across the lanes of I-80, and that’s going to take a long time to clean up,” Gleason said.
The clearance time is estimated at 8 p.m.
