Search For Elizabeth Shelley Enters Day 5

May 29, 2019, 6:33 AM | Updated: 3:10 pm

LOGAN, Utah – The search for 5-year-old Elizabeth Shelley is now entering its fifth day.

Crews on Wednesday will be following up on tips by breaking up into teams and searching new areas.

Shelley’s uncle, Alex Whipple, 21, is the main suspect in her disappearance. He was arrested the afternoon of the day Shelley went missing, and authorities said he has not been cooperative and has been exercising his right to remain silent.

Officials are also building their a against Whipple, who was in court Tuesday on unrelated charges. Investigators said they have gathered forensic evidence that strongly links Shelley’s disappearance to her uncle.

There have still been no charges filed against Whipple in relation to the girl’s disappearance, but a judge did deny him bail. A Cache County prosecutor said charges will be filed as soon as officials are comfortable with the evidence.

Logan City Police have been able to pinpoint some of Whipple’s movements thanks to video and tips submitted by people who live and work in the area. Investigators are continuing to ask residents to check their security and doorbell cameras to see if they’ve captured images of anyone who fits Whipple’s description.

Time is of the essence, officials said, since many of those videos tend to get erased after a certain period.

Police said they believe Shelley has been hurt, and they don’t know her condition.

Jill Parker, Police Information Officer for the Cache County Attorney Victims Advocates, and the spokesperson for the Elizabeth Shelley family said a donation account has been set up for the family. This is the only family authorized account, Parker said. It is at Zions Bank and the name of the account is: Elizabeth Shelley Donation.

Anyone with information that can help police with the search is asked to call 435-753-7555.
