Sgt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the car had a mechanical malfunction and pulled over to the right as the passengers heard “a big bang” inside the car. The car then started on fire.
Fortunately, the occupants were able to get to safety.
The car burned for a little bit and then caught the nearby grass on fire.
Roden said the vehicle also had some ammunition in it that went off for a short time, so northbound I-15 was closed for about 15 minutes.
