GADSDEN, S.C. — A South Carolina boy’s bullying over a cat lunchbox is going viral all thanks to his cousin who stood up for him
It was a day 10-year-old Ryker had been looking forward to for weeks, taking his new lunchbox to school. He found it on Amazon and was excited to show it off.
“I thought it was really cool because I like the cats flying up into the galaxy space,” said Ryker of the pink and purple cat lunchbox.
But when he returned home from school that day he told his mom he no longer wanted to take his lunch to school.
“Just because they said it, I felt like not taking it anymore,” said Ryker.
Ryker also said kids teased him about the lunchbox making mean comments in the hallway, “He said, is that a girl lunchbox or is that your sister’s lunchbox and I said no… nope!”
That’s when his cousin David Pendragon saw Ryker’s mom’s post on Facebook.
Pendragon said, “I just went on Amazon and looked for it and ordered it that day.”
But it’s what he did next that has caught the attention of more than 100-thousand people on Facebook.
Pendragon took the very same lunchbox to his corporate office in uptown Charlotte and snapped a picture, telling the story of his cousin to anyone that asked. Within the last week Amazon has now sold out of Ryker’s lunchbox, twice!
“In a world where you can be anything, the best thing you can be is kind. And I wanted him to see that and I wanted anybody who had forgotten that for a minute to see that,” said Pendragon.
Pendragon’s says his message is self expression is nothing to be ashamed of and neither is a lunchbox.
Ryker said he’s following in his cousin’s footsteps, “I don’t think about the mean comments so that’s why I think I’m gonna bring it back.”
So the next time Ryker heads out the door to school his beloved lunchbox will be at his side.
