High 5: “We Have the Greets” at Millcreek Arby’s

MILLCREEK, Utah — If you ever go to lunch at the Arby’s off 39th South in Millcreek, you’ll probably give your order to Dorothy Bale. Regular customers to this store have been doing just that for, in some cases, several years.
Last week Dorothy hit a milestone: 25 years with the company.
“I’ll keep her as long as I can. As long as she’ll stay, she’ll be here.”
But that’s not the only part of the story. The big part has to do with her age — Dorothy is 94 years old!
But she keeps her job because she loves it.
“I like all these people, and I would not like staying home at all. And it’s kept me busy and happy and I get a lot of attention.”
Customers say it’s that personal touch that really makes a difference.
“Sometimes you go to places and people are in their work mode and they don’t really think about greeting people with happiness and kindness, and Dorothy has always done that,” Lando Fairbanks says.
For going the extra mile and to commemorate her anniversary, we surprised Dorothy with a High 5.
Her co-workers agree: She’s a great person to be around
“Her being here kind of brings everybody else up. Rather than a co-worker and employee she’s more like a grandmother figure to everybody,” Arby’s Employee Ozzie Hernandez says.
“Wow she’s awesome,” Arby’s Manager Cici Salvador says. “Everybody comes in here and they wait in line so she can help them.”
It’s service with a smile at this Arby’s. And for this special employee, there are no signs of changing that.
“I guarantee she’s been making people’s day a little bit better every single day.”
