1. Saving the Dark Documentary Screening

As a resident of Salt Lake City, you probably know the importance of preserving the night sky. Saving the Dark, a documentary about just that states that 80% of the world’s population is living underneath light polluted skies.

Take your family or some friends out to Antelope Island State Park for a viewing of the film, followed by a night sky viewing. Various screenings are happening throughout the year, so keep an eye out.

2. Utah Shakespeare Festival

The Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival is always a great option during the summer months. Fred Adams started this festival up in 1961 and it’s now known for being one of the largest and oldest Shakespeare Festivals in North America.

The outdoor Engelstad Theatre is a replica of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and has housed some pretty big names over the years. This year’s program will feature 8 plays in 3 theatres in addition to a nightly greenshow, backstage tours, and seminars. This is perfect for a supporter of the local arts and theatre scene.

3. Annual Astronomy Festival

As we said, being a Utahn, you know the importance of looking up and being connected to the stars. The annual Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival is happening at the end of June and will offer loads of astronomical activities and programs all day and night.

It’s a little early to reveal the keynote speaker, but past keynotes have been delivered by NASA’s Michelle Thaller and Carolyn Shoemaker, the astronomer that helped discover the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet.

4. Davis County Fair

Celebrate the end of summer at the Davis County Fair. This August county fair features activities for the whole fam, including sea lions, pony rides, a bugology exhibit, as well as tons of great food and entertainment.
