TUCSON, Ariz. – The Tucson Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was placed under an evacuation watch due to the Bighorn Fire.
Fire officials said the blaze has burned over 3,200 acres in the Santa Catalina Mountains and was 10 percent contained Thursday evening.
Some homes in the Pima Canyon and Catalina Foothills areas have been placed under a mandatory evacuation order.
“Currently the temple is not part of an evacuation order but the situation is being closely monitored. The temple has been temporarily closed since March and at this time has minimal staffing,” Church officials said in a statement. “We are grateful for those working diligently to protect homes and buildings in the area.”
The Tuscon Arizona Temple was announced on Oct. 6, 2012, and dedicated on Aug. 13, 2017.
