UTVs, Trailers & Pickup Truck Stolen From Lehi Neighborhood

LEHI, Utah — Police are investigating several thefts that happened in a matter of hours over several blocks in Lehi on Friday the 13th.
Victims said a truck, two trailers, four side-by-side UTVs and other valuables — totaling in the tens of the thousands of dollars — were taken.
“We were in utter shock. We’re still in disbelief that my truck was stolen while I was in the backyard,” said Katie Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald was spending the night at her boyfriend’s home in Lehi when she woke up and found her red Dodge pickup missing. With the help of doorbell surveillance video, Facebook and police, she learned her truck didn’t go very far. At least not initially.
“I would say it was very organized,” said Melissa Robison.
Whoever took Fitzgerald’s truck. drove it to Robison’s home, hooked it up to her 27-foot-long trailer full of belongings and took off.
“These guys are professionals,” Robison said. “I mean, this is a big trailer to hook onto and get out in three minutes in the dark.”
The Robisons had been preparing for a move and loaded the trailer with boxes full of belongings, including her husband’s marine uniforms, her grandfather’s saddle that was given to him when he returned from serving in WWII and an American Flag that had been flown over Iraq during a combat mission.
“It makes me upset because my kids wake up at every noise now. They’re concerned. They’re scared,” Robison said. “We’ve lived in this neighborhood 10 years and nothing’s been stolen.”
Lehi parks employees later found some of those belongings dumped in a canal near Willow Park. The saddle and flag were found, but dozens of other boxes are still missing. And police told Robison they were likely dumped to make room for side-by-side UTV’s.
“It takes a really special kind of person to do that,” said Matt Worthington. “They had to have been scoping out the neighborhood for a while to know how to get away with it.”
Worthington woke up at around midnight to the sound of a UTV driving down the road and wondering who would out doing that at that hour. It wasn’t until the morning he learned that sound had come from his own four-seater.
“(I feel) a little violated. At the end of the day, it is what it is. Can’t change it,” he said.
Worthington said one of his neighbors also had a side-by-side vehicle stolen, and not far from them, a flatbed trailer carrying two more UTVs was stolen.
“They still cut the locks and still got to them,” he said. “So you know if somebody wants something bad enough they’re going to find a way to get it.”
“It’s just heartbreaking. It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” Fitzgerald said. “Don’t give them a reason to scout out your vehicles. Make it harder.”
Police told them the truck and trailer may have been spotted in Wyoming. But it’s unclear where they and the people responsible are now.
“I don’t know that they’ll find anything,” Robison said. “My hope is that people will be more aware that this is happening a lot in our neighborhood.”
