Mrs. Utah-America 2018 Heads To North Carolina To Help With Hurricane Relief

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A beauty queen is trading in her sparkly stilettos for an industrial mask.

Robin Towle, Mrs. Utah-America 2018, grew up in North Carolina.

She wanted to do more to help Hurricane Florence victims. She reached out to her Mrs. America pageant sisters and invited them to come help remove mold and debris, while providing supplies to hurricane victims.

Towle scrolled through dozens of pictures showing streets full of debris and water-logged belongings.

“It looks like trash,” Towle said. “But in these piles you’ll find somebody’s wedding album, the crib that cradled their babies or a favorite chair. Hundreds of memories are just sitting here – destroyed, and a reminder of how much more work there is to be done.”

Children in the Pender and Onslow school districts have not attended school for 23 days. Many children are suffering from respiratory infections due to the inhalation of mold.

Towle said hurricane victims are in need of 5-gallon buckets, bug spray, plastic Rubbermaid totes, respirator style masks, X-Large rubber gloves, duct tape, drywall mud, nails, commercial exhaust fans, and drop cords.

Those looking to donate can visit Mrs. Utah Americas Hurricane Relief on GoFundMe, where all the proceeds will be given directly to Hurricane Florence relief.

“There are people out of their homes, people who don’t have cars and elderly people who don’t know how to start the paperwork for FEMA… and they’re scared,” Towle told KSL 5 TV.

As Hurricane Michael gets stronger, the Carolinas are gearing up for what could be yet another disastrous blow to their communities.

Towle, who placed in the Top Six at the Mrs. America Pageant, said she’s hopeful volunteers can bring encouragement to her native state.

“I remember growing up in North Carolina and watching our town destroyed by natural disasters. We rebuilt, and we came back stronger,” Towle said. “I know I don’t need a crown to make a difference, but this title has motivated me to do more to help others.”

In August, Towle competed at the Mrs. America Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. She competed in: interview, state costume, swimsuit, evening wear and on-stage question.

The mother of six left for North Carolina on Wednesday.
