Construction worker seriously injured in SLC trench collapse

SALT LAKE CITY — One man was seriously injured after a trench collapsed on him at a home construction site in the Avenues.
Authorities said work was being done on an older home near 1230 East and 4th Avenue when part of the home’s foundation collapsed Monday evening, trapping the construction worker under debris and soil.
“When crews arrived, they found the additional construction workers making a valiant effort to rescue that individual,” said Capt. Anthony Burton with the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

Burton said those workers helped get the man, who is in his 30s, to a safer position. Heavy rescue crews were then able to pull the man to safety and he was sent to an area hospital in serious condition.
No update on his condition was immediately available.
While his coworkers tried to help, firefighters reminded the public to call 911 first so they can bring the proper equipment and prevent further injuries.
