MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah — Morgan County Deputies say some citizens called them after finding a case-full of cash discarded on their property. However, after taking a closer look, they reported noticing Chinese writing printed on the fake $20 and $100 bills.
“It’s easy to detect just by looking at it, but in a hurry or just kind of a moment’s notice, you might not pick up on it,” Detective Caleb Welch explained. “It does have the look and feel of real money.”
Welch says the bills were found inside a small lunchbox-sized plastic case, and that the fake money on top was arranged so that it was folded, or had paper or tape, covering up the pink, Chinese markings.
“We know that in the past in Utah, that money just like this has been used,” Welch said. “We just want to make sure where it has been recently found that if it does start popping up, that people are aware to watch for it.”
Welch said inside the case there was roughly $170,000 in counterfeit bills. He says if anyone finds something similar, that it should be reported to their local law enforcement agency.
