City Creek Prepping To Kick Off Holiday Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It may be a month and a half away, but City Creek is getting into the holiday spirit.
KSL TV’s Adventure specialists Trace Worthington and Sean Smith were live at City Creek Center Wednesday to get a sneak peek at a holiday staple.
The two were privileged enough to get a look at what was behind the paper in one of Macy’s store windows, which was decked with characters from the holiday classic “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” — all made from candy.
Being called the “Kickoff to Christmas Season,” the holiday windows reveal will happen Thursday at 6 p.m.
The windows feature exhibits that artists have been working on since July. The windows at Macy’s have about 10,000 pounds of candy sculpted into holiday scenes.
“That sounds like my kids’ Halloween night,” Sean said.
The Adventure specialists nipped over to Santa’s Lantern Cottage, where people were preparing to welcome the big man himself.
Santa will make a magical appearance Thursday at 7 p.m., and City Creek has offered a unique way of waiting in line to see him.
Instead of standing around and waiting their turn, people can shop and dine and then receive a text when it’s their turn to see Mr. Claus.
Beginning Nov. 20, City Creek will have a program called “Santa Paws,” where dog owners can bring their best friends to get a photo with Santa.
On Dec. 3, an American Sign Language Santa will be at City Creek for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
“In other words, there’s a lot going on,” Trace said.
Trace and Sean then got a look at one of the dances from Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “ReduxNut-Cracker,” where Clara gets an iPhone instead of a nutcracker.
City Creek is going to build the biggest stage it’s ever built for the performance, which will take place at 8 p.m.
“‘Tis the season guys,” Sean said. “I’m starting to feel it!”
