SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials have asked for witnesses to come forward who have information on a man who wielded a bow and arrow against protesters during a gathering in downtown Salt Lake City.
The man was seen on video posted to Twitter, stepping out of his vehicle into the crowd gathered on 200 East between 400 South and 500 South on Saturday.
He could be seen brandishing a bow and arrow, which he pointed into the crowd before people nearby rushed the man to disarm him.
KSL-TV was broadcasting live at the scene when the incident happened. Reporter Shara Park said it appeared protesters were attacking the man.
Police officers rushed in to pull the man from the group and detain him. He could be seen on live television with a bloodied face.
Mayor Erin Mendenhall said detectives have identified the man and planning to file charges. She asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
“If anyone had interaction with, or witnessed the actions of a man with a bow and arrow yesterday who came into the crowd, please call and make a report to our police department,” she said at a Sunday press conference. “That information will help us build our case against him.”
