SANDY, Utah – Officials announced Megaplex Theatres across Utah will reopen with stringent health and safety rules for employees and movie fans.
Most locations will reopen June 18 with “enhanced cleaning, sanitizing and operational protocols.”
“The intermission is finally over,” Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theaters President Blake Andersen said. “Our team is ready. Our buildings are ready. Our technology is ready, and we are thrilled to be welcoming guests back to Megaplex Theatres to enjoy great movies on the biggest screens in Utah.”
Those new protocols include limited capacity, gloves and masks for employees, while masks will be encouraged for guests.
Concessions will be ordered on a mobile app for in-theater pick-up, according to the news release.
A group of community leaders and health executives created a plan for reopening specifically tailored to theaters. It’s called “Utah’s Cinema Promise,” a document that lays out responsibilities for operators, employees and customers.
Megaplex said new movies like Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” will be released July 17 and Disney’s live-action version of “Mulan” will be released July 24.
Until then, Megaplex will show popular older releases like “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” series and other titles like “Dunkirk” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” will be shown in the interim.
Movie fans can get showtimes on social media and the Megaplex Theatres app.
