SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The four Republicans in the race for Utah governor clashed Tuesday over the response to a police-brutality protest that included the burning of a police car.
The Deseret News reports that former House Speaker Greg Hughes said the National Guard should have been called in sooner, and businessman Thomas Wright also said the order was “a little late.”
Former ambassador Jon Huntsman Jr. said soldiers on the streets showed a failure of communication.
Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox defended the state response, saying he was very proud of how police and the National Guard handled the situation.
