12 Utahns Die From COVID; Nearly 20K More Vaccines Administered

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Health officials reported 19,722 more vaccines have been administered since Tuesday’s data was released.
That brings the total number of vaccinations to 345,179.
Unfortunately, Thursday’s report also included the deaths of 12 Utahns.
An additional 1,591 people have tested positive for the virus, and the rolling 7-day average for percent of positive cases is remaining steady at 16.6%.
There are currently 352 people hospitalized with COVID-19.
Testing
The Utah Department of Health reports a total of 2,044,811 residents have been tested so far, which is 9,149 more than yesterday.
Of those, a total of 350,000 have tested positive for the virus. That’s an increase of 1,591 cases since Tuesday’s report.
The rolling 7-day average for positive tests is 1,334 per day, and the rolling 7-day average for percent of positive laboratory tests is 16.6%.
Hospitalizations
Currently, 352 people are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 119 of those people are in intensive care units. Another 61 patients are hospitalized with suspected cases of COVID-19.
Statewide, ICUs are 75.2% full. The ICU beds in Utah’s referral centers are 78.5% full.
Referral Centers are the 16 hospitals in Utah with the capability to provide the best care for patients with COVID-19. Because most patients are transferred to these facilities, their utilization is the best reflection of the true hospital capacity in Utah when looking at ICU beds.
Deaths
Twelve more Utahns have lost their lives to COVID-19. Health officials noted that three of those people died prior to Jan. 14. To date, 1,697 of the state’s residents have been killed by the virus.

- between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- older than 85, Weber County resident, long-term care facility resident
- between 45-64, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- between 65-84, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
5 women
- between 65-84, Box Elder County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- older than 85, Davis County resident, long-term care facility resident
- between 65-84, Davis County resident, long-term care facility resident
- between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
- between 65-84, Washington County resident, long-term care facility resident
Vaccinations
Utah has now administered 345,179 vaccines. A total of 267,355 residents have received the first dose, and 77,825 have been fully immunized with both doses.
