SALT LAKE CITY — A suspect is being sought for an overnight stabbing at an apartment complex near Smith’s Ballpark. At 3:45 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department began an investigation that led to a search for 46-year-old Daniel Etherington. He allegedly attacked a woman near 1450 South West Temple and then stabbed her boyfriend multiple times before fleeing in a vehicle.
The woman’s boyfriend arrived at the scene to intervene during the initial assault. The 29-year-old suffered critical injuries in the stabbing. He’s listed in stable condition after being transported to the hospital by a third party.
Officers, meanwhile, began searching for Etherington — sharing information with regional law enforcement. Less than two hours later, an outside agency notified SLCPD that the suspect’s vehicle was located near 3000 West and 2900 South. After observing the suspect depart, law enforcement followed the vehicle for some distance before SLCPD officers assumed incident command.
Etherington refused to stop and fled. SLCPD officers terminated the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle because of Etherington’s reckless driving and weather conditions at the time.
The SLCPD is seeking any information on the whereabouts of Etherington, who should be considered armed and dangerous, by calling 801-799-3000. The reference case number is 22-19470.
