SALT LAKE CITY — A 29-year-old man was arrested Saturday after police say he attempted to steal another man’s car in Salt Lake City at knifepoint before making threatening motions at officers.
According to the probable cause statement, the man saw an individual sitting in a car at 1361 S. State Street, opened the victim’s passenger side door, threatened the person with a knife, and attempted to take the car.
He was then seen walking away from the scene with a knife in his hand.
Court documents state officers commanded the man multiple times to stop, drop the knife, and get to the ground, but he did not comply.
Robert Sterry with the Salt Lake City Police Department wrote in the probable cause statement that the man “made slashing motions toward officers” before taking off westbound across State Street.
Officers caught up to the man and told him to drop the knife again, but he did not comply.
The man was eventually taken into custody, according to police, after he was struck by less lethal bean bag rounds.
Court documents state the man was “found to be a restricted person and was using a folding knife to threaten serious bodily injury and death on another person.” He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana.
Zachery Chance Jensen was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, fail to stop at command of law enforcement, interference with arresting officer, aggravated assault, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, among others.
