Centerville Police Mourn Loss of Officer

Jason Read of the Centerville Police Department died early Tuesday morning
CENTERVILLE, Utah – Officers and staff at the Centerville Police Department are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Jason Read, 40, passed early Tuesday morning at McKay-Dee Hospital, in Ogden. Read suffered injuries after an off-duty motorcycle accident in Syracuse on Sept. 23. He was recovering well, but had a sudden complication.
Lieutenant Zan Robison says it’s a difficult loss for their relatively small department of 19 sworn officers.
“We do a lot of things in our time off together as a group, and we’re a tight-knit family,” Robison said. “It’s a difficult time for all of us, and we’re working closely with each other to get through this.”
Read started with the Clearfield Police Department in 2005. He most recently worked as a patrol officer, but also served in the department’s K-9, and Problem Oriented Policing units. During his service, he was awarded two lifesaving medals, as well as the Medal of Valor.
“He was just an incredible cop,” Robison said. “Incredible safety and street smarts. And he was a dedicated officer to the community and the people that he served.”
Read leaves behind a wife, daughter, and two sons. Robison says the department is currently working with his family to make funeral arrangements.
