No Clear Motive As Investigators Learn About Mass Shooter

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The FBI is helping investigators put together a timeline of the last few weeks of the California mass  shooter’s life to figure out what led up to the shooting.

There is still no clear motive.

The 28-year-old shooter who killed 12 people inside a popular college bar was reported by his family for a domestic disturbance in April.

“He was somewhat irate, acting a little irrationally,” said Ventura County Sheriff Jeff Dean. “They called out our crisis intervention team, our mental health specialist, who met with him, talked with him and cleared him.”

At the time, they didn’t feel they had enough to do a psychological hold on him.

Some information uncovered about the shooter includes:

• He was a corporal with the U.S. Marines who spent time in Afghanistan.

• He reportedly was a regular visitor to the popular dance hall where he opened fire on the crowd.

• He lived with his mother in a home near where the shooting happened.

• Neighbors said for years they had been hearing loud arguments and altercations from inside the home.

• He was married in 2009 in Hawaii and divorced in 2013.
