1 Dead, 1 In Custody After Domestic Dispute In Midvale

MIDVALE, Utah – Police on Monday wrapped up their on-scene investigation into a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in Midvale.
Police reportedly received a 911 call about a domestic dispute at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday in the area of 7600 South and Center Square. Soon afterward, there was a call of shots fired.
Police arrested Chelsea Watrous Cook, 32, of Herriman, and booked her for investigation of aggravated murder. Cook is accused of shooting the girlfriend of her ex-husband.
Alpine School District confirmed Cook is a teacher at Skyridge High School in Lehi, although her profile had been removed from the high school’s website Monday.
According Salt Lake County Jail reports, Cook was bringing cold medicine to one of her children who was staying with her ex-husband. While at the apartment, she locked herself in the bathroom after being asked to leave. She reportedly left the bathroom, took a gun from her coat and fired at the girlfriend.
Police and a mobile crime lab were set up at the scene as the investigation happened throughout the night. Investigators cleared the scene at approximately 4 a.m.
Officers with the Unified Police Department originally responded, but the investigation was turned over to Salt Lake City Police Department.
“The reason why Salt Lake City Police is handling this investigation is because one of the involved individuals in this case is related to a Unified Police Department employee,” said a public information officer on the scene.
Authorities didn’t indicate which of the individuals was related to the UPD employee.
