ORLANDO, Fla. – President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints visited with the owner of Pulse Nightclub during a visit to Orlando on Sunday.

The Deseret News reports that Barbara Poma, CEO and founder of onePULSE Foundation, said she was “moved” by The Church leader’s words.

Poma created the onePULSE Foundation, a nonprofit organization, as a sanctuary of hope following the tragedy, according to a news release issued by The Church.

“I was moved that he knew what we were doing,” she said. “He was so kind to me and that meant a lot. ”

Forty-nine people were gunned down at Pulse Nightclub on June 12, 2016. Today, there is a memorial at the site of the shooting that includes tributes to those who died and those who were injured.

Poma also said that she felt love from local members of The Church.

“It’s really been an interesting time emotionally for everyone here,” she said. “Everyone is affected. We come together on June 12 to really stand together in solidarity to comfort one another to help us move through a healing process.”
