Man Shot In Head During Argument Over Gun In West Jordan

Jun 18, 2019, 5:22 AM | Updated: 8:56 am

WEST JORDAN, Utah – A man was shot in the head by another man outside a house in West Jordan after the two got in an argument over a gun early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the area of 2700 West and 7800 South.

One of the men picked up the other in Salt Lake and drove him back to the West Jordan house. Both men entered the house, but the driver of the car soon went outside and the passenger followed him, according to West Jordan Police Sgt. J.C. Holt.

The driver accused the passenger of stealing a gun out of the back seat of his car, but the passenger denied it and told the driver he didn’t know what he was talking about, Holt said. The driver eventually became so frustrated, he pulled out a handgun and shot the other man in the head. He then fled the scene, according to Holt.

Other occupants in the West Jordan home drove the injured man to a local hospital and dropped him off “curbside,” Holt said. The man was eventually transported to Intermountain Medical Center with “critical wounds,” including the gunshot wound to the head, Holt explained. The man was in surgery as of Tuesday morning, but was alert, conscious and talking to police beforehand.

Holt said police know who the shooter is and are working to find him and take him into custody, but aren’t releasing his name yet. Holt does not believe there is any significant danger to the public at this time or that there was any gang activity involved.
