Lots of things wash up onto beaches during hurricanes — including illicit drugs.
According to an NBC report, police in Florida said dozens of bricks of cocaine have washed up on the shores during Hurricane Dorian.
In the city of Melbourne, a beachgoer alerted an officer to a suspicious package, according to the NBC report. The officer discovered it was a package “wrapped in a way that was consistent with narcotics,” a police spokeswoman said.
At Cocoa Beach, located about 20 miles north of Melbourne, police discovered a duffel bag with 15 bricks of cocaine inside, NBC reports.
The cocaine found in Melbourne will be destroyed, according to police, and the cocaine discovered at Cocoa Beach was turned over to U.S. Custom and Border Protection.
