Congressman Ben McAdams issues a statement on the House of Representative's impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. McAdams continued the town hall discussion afterward, which was focused on health and wellness. Oct. 4, 2019.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rep. Ben McAdams on Friday issued a statement before he began a town hall meeting that focused on health and wellness.

The town hall came shortly after Sen. Mitt Romney released his own statement condemning the actions of President Donald Trump after the president openly called for foreign governments to investigate his political opponent

McAdams said he has “always followed a thoughtful and a deliberative path” during his time both as the former mayor of Salt Lake County and the current representative for Utah’s 4th District. He said he makes better decisions “after a careful review of all the facts.”

“The president’s actions yesterday, as well as allegations that he has abused his power and harmed our national security for his own personal gain, are serious,” McAdams said. “They demand attention from Congress, where we have a Constitutional duty to conduct oversight. I take that duty seriously and have consistently supported fact-finding to get all the information on the table and to determine our course of action, no matter where it might lead.”

He pledged to remain objective and reserve judgement until that fact-finding process has concluded.

“In the meantime,” he said, “I call on members of Congress from both sides to dial back the political rhetoric.”

McAdams added that voters want their senators and representatives to fulfill their duties in service to the country and its citizens – “not in service of a political party or future elections.”

“We have other work to do, and we cannot allow this issue to paralyze a Washington that is already low on results,” he said.

The congressman punctuated his statement by pointing out he was at the town hall to discuss health and wellness in Utah, something he promised voters he would address.

“I will continue to put my full effort into working with members of both parties to find solutions to the issues that I was elected to work on,” he said.
