Homeschooling Company Offers Resources To Families During Pandemic

LEHI, Utah – Since the beginning of Utah’s stay-at-home directive, homeschooling company The Good and The Beautiful has seen a nearly 700% increase in sales.
“Some days we are having over 10,000 free downloads and that’s 10,000 new families getting to explore,” said owner Jenny Phillips.
Phillips said the demand for their nearly 90 curricula for pre-K-8 and high school student sold online has been unexpected, but a welcome opportunity for her employees.
“We were not prepared for what happened when this pandemic hit,” she said. “We have just been really, really rushing to keep up with everything.”
Phillips said the company made some of its products free to download to help parents who may be struggling with teaching the children from home.
“We are just excited to offer those resources right now when parents find themselves, whether they want to or not, to be in this position,” she said. “We are hopeful these resources make it easier for them.”
That proved true for the Fergusons, who had been thinking of homeschooling their children but never took the leap. They said because the pandemic forced them to try it, they have made the decision to transition from traditional school to homeschool this fall.
“I’m really loving this,” Brittany Ferguson said. “I’m loving the change in our kids, I love that I get to spend so much time with them and that I get to be the one that interacts with them the most.”
Ferguson said it may not be the right choice for every family, but is grateful this time gave her an opportunity to try something new.
“I want to see what will help my children to be the best that they can,” she said.

How Do I Prevent It?
The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:
- Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
- Avoid touching your face
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
