ST. GEORGE, Utah – Many students have voiced their excitement about getting back into the classroom, but school is still going to look very different this year.
A fifth-grade teacher and professional speaker in Southern Utah didn’t want his students to miss out on assemblies, so he reached out to some of his contacts in the professional speaking world and asked them to do a virtual assembly.
“But let’s talk about things that will actually help them right now,” said teacher Tyler Christensen. “So we talked about how to take care of your physical health when you’re stuck at home, how to stay in a routine to help with anxiety and depression. So we talked about those things.”
One of the first speakers in Christensen’s virtual assembly was Judson Laipply. He’s the man behind the first ever viral video – ‘The Evolution of Dance.’
“I believe the answer to that question – the meaning of life – is to evolve, to grow,” he said.
Laipply talked about the “struggle bus theory” and how to grow through the most difficult parts of life.
Christensen’s assemblies have grown since that first meeting. He had 50 virtual assemblies posted by the end of last school year, and he’s got 100 more ready to go for this school year.
They feature professional athletes and Olympians, celebrities, Hollywood producers and more.
