West Jordan, Mountain Ridge High Schools Go Online After COVID-19 Spike

WEST JORDAN, Utah – School is canceled Wednesday for students at West Jordan and Mountain Ridge high schools after a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Students from both schools won’t be back to in-person learning until after fall break.
Wednesday will be an off day to allow both teachers and students to prepare. Virtual learning will begin Thursday.
In an emergency meeting Tuesday, the Jordan School District Board voted to make the change following new reported cases of COVID-19.
The Salt Lake County Health Department identified 22 active cases within Mountain Ridge High School and 26 cases at West Jordan High School.
“One thing that we are learning is that, the majority of these cases, students are not catching the virus at school,” said Bryan Dunford, Jordan School District Board president. “I think the protective measures at our schools are working. Our evidence that we’re seeing suggests that students are not catching the virus – they’re bringing it from home.”
Staff will be at both schools prepping for online learning. Students will generally not be allowed inside the buildings.
Students enrolled at Jordan Academy for Technology North and South campuses will still be able to participate in-person in their respective programs. JATC will continue as normal.
In-person learning for West Jordan and Mountain Ridge is expected to resume Oct. 27. In the meantime, grab-and-go lunches will be available at both schools from 11 a.m. – noon.
