WOODS CROSS, Utah – The Davis School District has begun COVID-19 testing for every student involved in sports and other activities.
The tests are now mandatory across all school districts for students participating in extracurricular activities.
For students who are simply attending school, they aren’t required to get a COVID-19 test. However, if they want to play basketball, do swim, drill team, theater, or any other high school activities, they’ll first have to take the test.
Students at Woods Cross High School on Wednesday lined up for their nasal swabs. After about 20 minutes, coaches received the results.
“So we know who’s good or who’s not,” said DSD spokesperson Chris Williams. “Those that are not and test positive, they go home. We hope that isn’t the case.”
While it is yet another new protocol for students, district leaders are finding students will gladly do it if it allows them to play.
The testing is part of Gov. Gary Herbert’s executive order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, especially among those who may be asymptomatic.
