Inauguration Ceremony For Utah’s New Governor Happening Monday

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Utah will soon have a new governor sworn into office. The stage has been set for the inauguration of Spencer Cox to take place at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts.

Because of health restrictions, it will be a smaller, outdoor ceremony, and those in attendance will be required to have a negative COVID-19 test result within 24 hours prior to the event.

On Sunday night, Governor-Elect Spencer Cox and Lt. Governor-Elect Deidre Henderson participated in a Freedom Fireside at the St. George Tabernacle.

“I’m convinced that Utah’s destiny has less to do with the work done in the State Capitol than the work done inside our homes and what’s found in our individual hearts,” said Henderson.

“Thank you for your goodness. Thank you for the great things that you are going to do this year. Thank you for your patience with us and all your elected leaders. We live in a special place, and this is going to be a special year,” said Cox. May God bless you in all you do.”

The meeting was hosted by the St. George Interfaith Council, and included prayers, remarks and music from local faith communities.

Earlier in the day, Cox and Henderson attended worship services at four different churches in St. George as part of their Day of Prayer ahead of taking the oath of office.

It was a busy inaugural weekend for the two. On Saturday, their families joined them to sort and box food at the Utah Food Bank’s Southern Utah distribution center.

All month long they called for donations to help those struggling during the pandemic.

Monday’s inauguration ceremony starts at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live on KSL-TV.

A total of five statewide officers will be sworn into office.

Afterward, Governor-elect Cox will make stops in Fillmore, Fairview and Spanish Fork, before ending the day watching fireworks on the steps on the State Capitol.
