Mom of Aaron Lowe pleads for witnesses of shooting to come forward

SALT LAKE CITY — The mother of Aaron Lowe issued a desperate plea Monday after the University of Utah Football player was shot and killed over the weekend in Salt Lake City.

“I just want everyone to know, if you know anything, anything about the people that did this to my child, please come forward and say something,” said an emotional Donna Lowe-Stern to KSL-TV. “I don’t think they should be allowed to be free.”

Aaron Lowe, 21, was killed early Sunday morning while attending a house party in the Sugar House area.

A woman was also shot and remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Lowe’s mother flew into Salt Lake City on Sunday from Texas to meet with coaches and police.

She said investigators told her her son was an innocent victim.

“My child was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He did nothing wrong,” said Lowe-Stern. “I raised a good child. He wasn’t a troublemaker, he didn’t engage in fighting and arguing, and he didn’t tote weapons. He didn’t do any of those things.”

She also had a message for the gunman and those who were behind the killing.

“I want them to pay for what they did, and I hope they got a conscious and that they come and turn themselves in,” she said.

Aaron Lowe grew up in Texas and is a triplet of all boys.

His life was all about football and Lowe-Stern said he was living his dream playing for the Utes. He also had much bigger dreams of playing in the National Football League (NFL) one day.

“I knew he was going to make it. The NFL was where he was going,” she said. “He was on his way because he loved, he loved the game.”

He also dearly loved his mom.

“I got a phone call every day. ‘You good?’” she said. “He was a great kid, I mean, he was never disobedient.”

Aaron wore the number 22 for a reason — that was the number of his best friend, Ty Jordan, also a University of Utah Football player who died by gunfire.

It was just nine months ago that Jordan accidentally shot himself.

Aaron was the recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship this year.

“Aaron and Ty just became the best of friends,” she said.

Lowe-Stern said all she can do is put her faith and trust in God.

“My baby’s with God,” she said. “His time on Earth was done. I’m hurt. It’s about to kill me, but I know my God, and I know God makes no mistakes. So, whatever it was that Aaron had to do, he’d already done it, and God called him home.”

A GoFundMe* page has been set to help cover funeral costs.
