Corrections officer arrested for wildlife code violations

SANPETE COUNTY, Utah —A Utah corrections officer is on administrative leave after being charged with multiple violations of Utah State Wildlife code.
Scott Stallard was arrested Friday by DWR officials on suspicion of wildlife violations in connection to poaching big game and upland game.
Charging documents say Stallard “picked up his children before going to school. While in the cab of his vehicle, Stallard instructed his children to lie about several hunts of protected wildlife.”
Kaitlin Felsted with the Utah Department of Corrections confirms that Scott Stallard was a correctional office at the Central Correctional Facility. They are aware of the charges and he’s been placed on administrative leave.
The charging documents also say “Stallard states to the children that he has ‘taken care of’ items of evidentiary value pertaining to these illegally taken wildlife.”
The DWR served a search warrant Friday at Stallard’s residence. The Sanpete County’s Sheriff Office and the Gunnison Valley Police Department assisted in the search.
