Early morning crash leaves one child dead, one injured

RICHFIELD, Utah — UHP is investigating after a wrong-way crash by a suspected drunk driver killed one child and severely injured the other.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday when a Cadillac SUV was travelling eastbound in the westbound lands of I-70 near milepost 35, according to a release by UHP.
The Cadillac, UHP said, struck the right front side of a semi truck before being thrown off the side of the interstate.
The impact of the crash was such that both passengers, although wearing seatbelts at the time, were ejected from the vehicle.
The passengers were both juveniles. An 11 year old died on scene and a 9 year old was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in extremely critical condition, UHP said.
UHP said the driver is the mother of both children and was extremely intoxicated. She received minor injuries from the crash.
The driver is in custody of UHP, who said a thorough investigation is underway and charges are forthcoming.
