DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – An 18-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after he admitted to sexually abusing two 14-year-old girls, according to police.

Samuel Sherman Cryder was booked in the Davis County Jail for the felony charges of:

  • two counts of forcible sexual abuse,
  • three counts of enticing a minor by internet or text,
  • one count of aggravated kidnapping,
  • one county of dealing in materials harmful to a minor,
  • and eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

In the court documents, the first victim told Davis County Sheriffs that Cryder contacted her over social media and has been texting him for the past month.

She told police that Cryder had gone to her junior high school two times where the sexual abuse happened.

Police took Cyrder into custody, where he admitted to sexually abusing the 14-year-old girl last week.

According to the court documents, Cyder said that he first met with the girl during her lunch break in the school parking lot, where he inappropriately touched her for about an hour and prevented her from leaving.

The girl was able to escape by telling him that she needed to get back to class, and he let her go.

After this happened, Cyder told police that he convinced the girl to meet him a second time and said to her that “he would not act the same way if they met again.”

He met with the 14-year-old and forcibly abused her in the school parking lot the next day, according to the documents.

He admitted he was “more forceful” towards the girl during this second meeting.

The victim claimed that her wrists had “red marks,” which lasted until the next day. She told police that “when he wouldn’t let me leave, I felt I couldn’t be saved.”

The 14-year-old was able to escape from Cryder during the second encounter and refused to meet with him again.

School surveillance video also confirms that these events happened.

While talking to police, Cyrder also admitted to talking to a second 14-year-old girl online and convinced her to perform sexual acts on camera.

Police found nude images and videos of the second victim on his cellphone.

According to a press release, they are working to identify the second victim

Cryder is being held without bail due to his charges and the increased risk of him fleeing because he is homeless.

Other court documents show that he is guilty of a felony theft charge from last November in Weber County. His sentencing for this was scheduled for May.

Davis County gave the following statement:

In conjunction with our victim’s services program, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing support during, and information about, the criminal justice process to victims of sexual assault. If you have additional information on Cryder or his other victims, please contact Davis Dispatch at 801-451-4150 and reference case number D22-4210
