MILLCREEK, Utah — A second man has been arrested in connection with a shootout at a Millcreek convenience store parking lot that left one man dead and another critically injured.

Unified police booked Joshua Harun Nena, 23, into the Salt Lake County Jail on Sunday for investigation of obstructing justice. Last week, police arrested Houssein Musse, 18, for investigation of murder.

The deadly confrontation happened just after 12:30 a.m. Friday at a 7-Eleven, 4051 S. State. Two groups who arrived at the store in four vehicles got into a confrontation that ended in multiple shots fired, according to police.

The first arriving officers found a backpack near the store which they say Musse picked up. Officers say Musse “kept trying to reach into the open pocket” of the backpack. Police stopped him before he could get his hand in the pocket and placed him into custody. The officers on scene noted that the bag “was very heavy” and “suspected the backpack may have contained a firearm,” according to a police booking affidavit.

Detectives searched the bag and reported finding a handgun inside.

Musse was at the store with Salman Ahmed, 19, who was shot in the abdomen, the affidavit states. Ahmed was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

While police were securing the scene at the 7-Eleven, officers learned that a Lexus had arrived at Intermountain Medical Center at about 12:50 a.m. and dropped off 18-year-old Talib “Kunda” Ahmed. He had been shot several times, including in the head, and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, the affidavit states. Police attempted to stop the Lexus as it drove away but were unsuccessful.

Detectives reviewing security video from the store observed Musse, Talib Ahmed and Salman Ahmed getting into a fight, according to the affidavit. Musse and Salman Ahmed are then seen running away from the 7-Eleven toward a nearby body shop business. The owner of the business later reported that he found blood and guns underneath one of his vehicles, police say.

On Sunday, the owner of the Lexus, Nena, called police to report that his vehicle had been stolen, the affidavit states. Nena and Talib Ahmed are cousins, according to police. Detectives interviewed Nena and said they determined he was lying about his car being stolen and arrested him. As of Monday, investigators were still looking for the Lexus.

The search for the person who shot Salman Ahmed also continued Monday.
