FARMINGTON, Utah – In this era of body cameras, citizens have even more access to a police officer’s response to a call.
A Davis County Sheriff’s Office sergeant made sure his camera was rolling when he watched a Farmington police officer change a baby’s diaper at Farmington Station.
The officers were responding to an incident on the TRAX last week. They say a woman with a baby was having some mental health issues, and it was reported she assaulted someone on the train. While police were investigating, they realized the 2-month-old wasn’t being held correctly and needed a diaper change. Farmington police officer Ballard decided to fix that.
“He was able to collect the diaper and some belongings and show some great care and compassion, not only for the mother and the situation, specifically to this infant,” said Davis County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Detective Ty Berger.
The baby was taken into state care. There was a delay in the arrival of DCFS, so officer Ballard brought the baby to the Davis County dispatch center where folks there helped take care of the child until a caseworker could get there.
Officer Ballard did not want the recognition, but we’re glad the Davis County Sheriff’s Office shared the story.
No charges weren’t filed against the mother. She is currently getting the treatment she needs at a hospital.
