Jimmy Martin Reviews ‘Once Upon A Deadpool,’ ‘The Favourite’

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A new movie of sorts is hitting theaters this week.
It’s called “Once Upon a Deadpool,” and it stars Fred Savage.
The movie is a PG-13 version of “Deadpool” and has most of the explicit stuff removed. In its place, it has scenes of Deadpool reading to his grandson, played by Savage.
The finished product spoofs “The Princess Bride.”
Film critic Jimmy Martin sat down with Savage to talk about his new project.
“I got a phone call, my phone rang, and it was Ryan Reynolds, who I didn’t know,” Savage said. “I asked, ‘How did you get this number? And he was not forthcoming.”
Reynolds asked Savage if he’d like to help make a “Deadpool” movie that’s kid-friendly.
“I said, ‘That sounds terrible,'” he said. “‘Who would want to see that?'”
Reynolds was able to talk him into it, though, and soon Savage found himself reprising a role he played more than 30 years ago.
Martin said the scenes with Savage are “priceless,” but there’s only about 20 minutes of them. He said those who’ve already seen “Deadpool” could wait until this version is released on streaming or Blu-ray.
‘The Favourite’
It’s already getting Best Picture buzz. “The Favourite” is in theaters now.
The story is set in 18th century England, and it’s about Queen Anne and two women, Sarah and Abigail, competing to be her favorite.
Martin sat down with some of the stars, who said this is anything but your typical period drama.
“They’re fabulous characters, very well-drawn, very complex — not just one thing,” said Rachel Weisz. “They’re powerful and vulnerable, they’re needy and cruel; they’re many, many things.”
“It was really cool that it had all of this history,” Emma Stone said about the filming location. “It just sort of instantly transported you to that time period.”
Martin said he predicts Stone, Weisz and Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Anne, will all get Oscar nominations.
He said it’s not a conventional film, and he loved it.
He noted it’s not a kid-friendly movie.
