PLEASANT GROVE, Utah – Police arrested a man Thursday night after they said he held his daughter at gunpoint inside his home the night before.
Nicholas William Haun, 38, was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, following his peaceful surrender at the home near 100 North and 1050 East.
Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Britt Smith said officers had been looking for Haun since Wednesday’s incident.
“Her father had actually pulled a gun on her, held her at gunpoint for some time,” Smith said. “She was able to get away from him, call 911.”
Smith said investigators ultimately discovered Haun had returned to the house and was inside with his wife and son as police set up a containment area Thursday afternoon.
Thursday night, police called in a SWAT team, which used an explosive to breach the front door.
“(Police) called him out and he surrendered immediately,” Smith said.
Haun had also been wanted out of Arizona for aggravated assault, according to police.
He had apparently moved to Pleasant Grove within the past couple months.
Neighbors were told to shelter in place during Thursday evening’s ordeal.
Smith said police were grateful to the community for the cooperation.
“For him to surrender peaceably, nobody got hurt — we could not ask for a better resolution,” Smith said. “Everybody’s safe, the neighborhood’s safe. He’s going to be held accountable for his actions last night, and it’s just a good end to the situation.”
