Group Rescued After Being Stuck in Narrow Utah Slot Canyon

Garfield County spokeswoman Denise Dastrup said Monday that four experienced hikers ranging in age from 40 to 53 went hiking Sunday in the Box Death Hollow slot canyon near Escalante, Utah. Dastrup says the group was unprepared for the deep water levels in the canyon, which required swimming in areas.
She says freezing temperatures had caused some of the women to become hypothermic.
Search and rescue teams freed them from the canyon early Monday after a member of the group used a beacon alert to call authorities late Sunday night.
Dastrup says the women were frightened but unharmed.
The canyon is about 290 miles (466 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.
